.
We first thought about just switching to another provider but then decided to just self host it.
It is running on my #homelab and accessible with a tunnel remotely. I noticed a few small bugs and hence will try to fix them after my exams.
Time for a new #SideProject
imma be building a #homelab setup, basically a bunch of small servers in a cluster for doing home computation.
i always find these silly, but i actually have a need for one now that im trying to cut loose from all cloud services/subscriptions
New instance, so time for a re #introduction post!
Hi all, I'm Phillip! I just moved from infosec.exchange (I still love you Jerry
) I'm a 20-something guy living with my gf somewhere in the U.S. unfortunately.
Professionally, I am a solo #it admin/automation engineer at a smaller company.
Unprofessionally, I am into #discgolf, #music, #reading, #houseplants, #homelab, #gaming, #SmallWeb, and more. Check out my omg.lol page in my bio if you'd like. Feel free to say hi!
And another successful round of home- and colo-lab maintainance:
- Updated Proxmox VE servers to v.8.3.4
- Updated Proxmox backup server to v.3.3.3
- Updated all Debian/GNU Linux servers (including the
burningboard.net Mastodon instance) with the latest patches and rebooted them
- Updated Red Hat Satellite to version 6.16.3 on RHEL9
- Updated all Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Fedora and CentOS-Stream systems with Satellite+Ansible and rebooted them
- Updated my Raspberry PI 4 with Home-Assustant to the latest version 2025.3.1
According to Grafana+Loki dashboards and checkmk, everything is running smoothly and is operational :)
Thanks to the power of automation with Ansible, all of this just took roughly 25 minutes to do.

This Week in Self-Hosted (7 March 2025)
New personal finance and #budgeting apps, software updates and launches, a spotlight on #SimpleHomelab, and more in this week's self-hosted recap!
Ended up with an Ambient Weather WS-2000 but the IP model as it was cheaper and I don’t need a display right now.
Davis stuff just too expensive for now unless I like it.
Now to get Home Assistant setup to intake the data. #homelab #tech #weather #Wx

Repurposing my old #Proxmox node into a #retrogaming station with #batocera. The hardest part would be to write Batocera image to an NVMe drive ) I’ll boot #Ubuntu from a USB stick to download and write the image from there.

Being new at 3d Printing I wasn't prepared for how fast I'd have a mess of directories of 3d models. Became apparent pretty quick I needed some kind of organization. Self-hosting addiction to the rescue!
Manyfold is fantastic thus far. manyfold.app
Dropped some new features for selfh.st/apps this morning that include updated bookmarking functionality, custom views for sharing with others, and new sort options (project age).
Check it out and let me know if you have any feedback!
What to do with dead SSDs?
I run a 3/8" drill through the chips and send to electronics recycling.
Seems my ADATA devices are starting to fail. Can't comment on whether this is due to total age, hours in flight, commonality, or quality. At least 75% of my SSDs are ADATA.
I realized that I was spending 50¢ every month for 7 Route53 hosted zones at AWS, when I really don't need to do that for some of them. I'm using name.com
as my registrar, and they'll do basic #DNS service for free as a part of that.
I didn't want to spend an hour clicking and copy/pasting DNS records, so like any good geek I spent about 6 hours writing a script to do it for me.
It's a bit of a specialized need. If you're not hosted in #Route53 and not looking to go to name.com
, this is not useful to you at all, except as a curiosity of how badly I write python.
But if (a) you're cheap like me, and (b) you've made the same choices as me, this script will save you some time.
Ok, #Longhorn might have just saved me here with #k3s and my storage woes. #SMB and #NFS both caused catastrophic problems with corrupted files and databases. Using #unraid as the storage backend for the later 2 but will keep it as a backup destination and network storage for more static datasets.
Thanks to everyone who helped push me in this direction. #homeassistant is officially happy again!
Anybody know where I can find an easy guide showing how to export #distrobox or #podman #containers from one #linux host machine to another?
